Doc & Rosa Lee Watson Scholarship
The Goodnight Family Scholarship in Sustainable Agriculture
DOC & ROSA LEE WATSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Doc and Rosa Lee want to help local students majoring in Sustainable Development at Appalachian State University. Sustainable Development is often defined as: “Development that meets the needs of the people today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.”
Improving the use of our resources, creating efficient roads and transportation, protecting and enhancing quality of life, and creating new businesses are issues communities struggle with daily.
Sustainable Development students study and debate these issues in classes focused on economic development, resource management, sustainable agriculture, conservation, and rural communities.
The Sustainable Development major prepares students for careers in government, non-profit organizations, agriculture, and business.
The reuse of the Old Cove Creek School and the businesses and services that now use the building and support the community are examples of sustainable development in practice.
Doc and Rosa’s Scholarship Fund will provide at least one annual scholarship to a local student with financial need during their junior year at Appalachian State University. The scholarship is renewable for the student’s senior year provided he/she remains in good academic standing.
